Pitch to us
The Nerve is a new media title focussing on culture, politics & tech. We are a very small team of editors who publish two email newsletters a week - on Tuesdays and Fridays. Our stories are also published on our website and social channels.
We want to publish writers who are new to us. Are you a talented writer who has an idea that you think might work for the Nerve? We are looking for feature articles that fit within our core areas: culture in its broadest baggiest sense, politics and technology or articles that sit at the intersection of these main areas. Take a look at the articles since we launched at the end of September 2025.
We also publish investigations, which tend to be around the dangers of big tech, the rise of the hard right and the climate emergency. These are much more labour intensive, for obvious reasons, and we have a team of reporters. But we are keen to hear tips and pitches, and are very open to working collaboratively, both with freelance reporters and with other outlets. You can see two of our biggest investigations to date on Palantir and Reform UK’s biggest funder Christopher Harborne here.
What might work
Good ideas - big or small. And tell us why are you the person to write it.
You have a unique take on a subject, for instance, you had (or have) a job that gave (or gives) you a ringside seat on a topic that you believe Nerve readers would be keen to read about.
You have an unusual and powerful personal/ memoir story - say, you worked for decades on the front line of a technology company and gave it all up to become a bookseller - taking your secrets with you!
You believe you have a hard news investigation (see above) that we should hear about. You work in the culture sector and have inside knowledge of a big story. You want to suggest an interview with someone that we are unlikely to have heard of (please don’t suggest PR-led interviews with writers, directors who are currently on the promo circuit; we are across those).
If you have an idea that might work, send us a short message summarising the idea and core content at [email protected]. Do not use AI to write your pitch and please include the word “pitch” in the subject line - that will really help us notice the message. Bear with us - we aim to respond to all pitches but we are a tiny, very busy team and it may take us some time.
Payment
We pay for successful submissions on publication. Longer researched features which take time are paid at a higher rate than, say, a short interview.
Thanks for your interest.
